In ‘09, Angelique will strive to provide programming for students in grade 5 and up.

Tracy and Eunice mentioned as individuals who had expressed interest in providing programming.
Participation in The Big Read sponsored by The Vermont Humanities Council discussed. This year’s book selection is Fahrenheit 45, 10 free books available to participating libraries.
Library volunteers encouraged to attend the Women’s Alliance Dinner at the Swiss Farm on December 10th as the Trustees will at that time present an award to one deserving library volunteer.
Game night discussed. Hope to expand appeal to the adult community expressed. Timing and child care discussed; a Cabin Fever February Pot Luck Game Night suggested. Karen likely to follow up on plan.
Nancy Blessing indicated continued exploration of Listen Up Vermont downloadable books and plans to keep us informed.
Quarterly work days slated for January 11th, April 5th, July 12th & October 18th in the coming year.
Karen asked to write a letter to library users explaining purpose of registration and issuance of new library cards.
Thank you notes sent to Saskia Hagengroom and the Hayden family for presenting after school programs.
Decision made to again request $940.00 from town budget in 2009

Marion Abrams plans to move ahead with purchase of MP3 players for patron use when downloading audio books.
Lorraine Fielder reported on results of Usborne Book Sale. Total sales of $500.00 (including library purchases) and use of Literacy for a Lifetime grant netted RCML $350.00 worth of free books.
Sharon Mayer nominated and accepted to fill vacancy of trustee as Sandy Begin had previously made it know that she wanted to step down. Sandy will be asked to write letter of resignation.
Future of After School Program discussed. Angelique remains available to spearhead program along with Joyce through the spring of ‘09, but anticipates being unavailable in the fall of ‘09. Any individuals interested in maintaining or redirecting an after school program are encouraged to step forward.
Noted that Turrell grant writing due in February ‘09.
Thank you notes written to Judy Jenson, Trish & Jeff Hegewald, Edie Johnstone, Joe Desena and Becca Rubens for contributions to the after school program.
Noted that ad for RCML will appear in the White River Valley Telephone Directory compiled by the Park House in Rochester.
Sale of telephone directory in library suggested.
Afternoon of Sunday 11/23/08 designated as library work day. Volunteers strongly encouraged to attend from 1-5pm to facilitate the cataloging our many new books.
Possibility of library sponsoring a Yoga Community Awareness Class as offered by Gianna at the Town Hall discussed. Monday afternoon time slot suggested. Marion will follow up with Gianna and Select Board.
December meeting to take place on Thursday, December 4th.

Volunteer needed to lead the way to utilization of www.listenupvermont.org, the online collection of audio books. Number 333 can be used for tutorial.
Volunteers recruited for book sale at the Bazaar on September 27th. Set up to start at 9am and breakdown likely around 3pm. Sign up sheet to be circulated online.
New Business
Sandy Begin previously expressed desire to step down as trustee.. Appropriate replacements discussed. Marion will recruit some lucky individual
All present agreed to change meeting time to 7:00 pm starting in October.
After school program slated to resume on Tuesday afternoons starting in November. Volunteers needed for organization and presentations. Possible candidates discussed. Interested individuals encouraged to sep forward.
Library trustees voiced desire to increase adult appeal. . Adult programming discussed. Cooking demonstrations suggested by Sharon.
Sharon looks forward to meeting with teen advisory group. Meeting tentatively slated for November. Focus of group discussed. Teens pioneering RCML access to online audio books discussed.
Purchase of MP3 players for patron use in conjunction with Listen Up Vermont program discussed.
Pumpkin carving planned for afternoon of October 28th. Time, source of pumpkins and volunteers to be determined. It is hoped that in addition to volunteer supervisors, teens will help younger children with activity.
Sharon offered to distribute books to Trick-or-Treaters on Halloween.
Possibility of November fundraising dinner and award ceremony discussed.

Turrell grant: Angelique reported that the next deadline is in Feb. and the process can be done online. What are our needs for Fall 09/Spring 2010? We should definitely ask for book money, but what about the after-school program? We need someone to head this up the year after next as Angelique will not be able to commit.
Listen Up VT: We are looking for someone to run this program, Nancy will review information about this. We paid membership toward this and need to begin training staff and offering to community. Maybe purchase MP3 players to circulate?
Monthly display: Ray Rice is on board for August.
Cataloging: Susie is weeding the card catalog so that we can add new ones. We file by title and author. New cards need to be sorted into categories (such as adult fiction, easy reader, etc.), then alphabetized by author and title. Author cards can go in drawers; title cards are not cleaned out yet.
Book sale is 9/27. Be ready to volunteer!
We have a lot of new juvenile books from Turrell Grant – spread the word!
Privacy compliance: Per State of VT, we need to develop a new circulation policy – all patrons need to be assigned a number, rather than using name to check out books.
Language program: Sue would be willing to teach Korean if there is interest. John could also teach Chinese twice a week! We don’t have a library person who can host on a regular basis at this point. Perhaps we can fold this into the after-school program? We will check with Angelique and Joyce. Another thought was that we could offer adult cooking/language classes?

Treasurer’s Report:

Planning of Summer events:
Picnics will be held June 29 (Karen), July 20 (Kelly), and August 24 (Nancy). Special events/neighborhood games will be held during picnic.
Saturday story time will be held during July and August from 9:30-10:30 starting July 12. Library will be open from 9-11.
We now have a movie license. Nancy will lend us “A Bug’s Life”; Courtney- projector?; Marion – speakers.
Jason will lead a mushroom walk in July – if weather has been rainy enough.
Greg Lobella will do a “parachute tutorial” with any interested parties, Sharon will pick up Parachute, and Nancy will look for her book on games.
Reading incentive program – We’ll give bug stickers for visits to the library – we will submit proposal to Greg for Picarellos’ Pizza certificates!
TAG – Teen Advisory Group – proposed a movie and pizza night and maybe a sleepover?
Adult programs – There were seven who attended the retirement program. There was some discussion about community interest in adult events – perhaps we will wait until fall.
Mailing – Angelique will coordinate and design but will need help with putting together.
The Killington Library is hosting a resort librarian meeting. Anyone interested in attending? No one was able.
The first set of new Ingram books are here – primarily junior fiction.
Listen Up VT – we need to get trained for this and find out more about passwords.
Do we want to get a dry erase board to feature/highlight upcoming events? Tabled for now.
Library Trustee Meeting Minutes (continued)
It was decided that the Book Club will not meet during the summer months, but will resume sometime in September. Regular host, Sharon Mayer, encourages members to read the next selection, Twenty Chickens For A Saddle by Robyn Scott, at their leisure and be prepared to discuss it in the fall.
Angelique Lee offered to take on the task of finding a suitable sofa for readers with funds from the Turrell Grant as previously decided.
July 12th was chosen as the start date for this summer’s Saturday morning Story Hour. The library will be open from 9 to 11 for story hour and a related arts & crafts project suitable for preschool aged children. A variety of library enthusiasts are encouraged to assume responsibility for hosting at least one of these sessions.
It was mentioned that the Roger Clark Memorial Library was largely featured in a documentary film about the Cliff Grant Children’s Literacy Foundation.
A note was written to thank Mr. Skrobak for his retirement planning presentation on May 28th.

April 3, 2008

Treasurer’s report
Expenses included $69.99 for supplies, $114.15 books, $63.12 after-school program, $100 for music - for a total of $347.26. Balance in our account is $5,293.67. The spaghetti supper collected $420 in donations; Joyce’s expenses have not been subtracted from that figure yet. Vonage account has $133.02. Our two CD’s have $1000 and $1,197.97.
Book Purchasing
We have $1,500 from grant to buy books this year. Angelique and April have made a list of approximately $1000 worth in Ingram. List needs to be checked against our collection. Could be part of our work day scheduled for April 27th.
A good selection of periodicals have been ordered using Winnie Bell grant.
Upcoming Programs
We will hold summer family picnics on Thursdays from 5-7 during the months of June, July, and August. Saturday story and craft time will be held from 9-11 in July and August. April, Angelique, Kelly?, others? will lead programs. A sub-committee to brainstorm the summer reading program was started: Joyce, Sharon, Angelique, April. We anticipate an active/outdoor focus. Are also thinking about targeting 10+ age group.
Picarello’s Pizza will donate pizza certificates for our summer programs. We still need to decide how we want to use them, how many and to submit a proposal.
Youth Book Advisory Session
…will be held on April 26th from 11-1 – with pizza!
Marion will send TYs to after-school program volunteers.
Grant Follow-up
We agreed that a comfy loveseat or small futon couch would be a good addition to the library. ? will look for one at a discount.
Game Nights…
were not a big success this winter. We hope to change time to Fridays after school next year and catch some bus traffic.
Summer Mailer
All agreed that we should continue to reach the community in this way/ be consistent with our message. Target date to send to all Pittsfield box holders is May 15th.
Adult Programs
We are still considering holding some special, informational, fun events for adults - such as Feng Shui, cooking, financial planning, wills… Interest of presenters and participants to be determined…

scheduled for April 27th at noon.
Announcements
Two new documentaries have arrived: VT Creative Economy and Eggs 101.
Book club will meet again on April 29th at 6:30.
Music for little ones is April 12th at 10.
The book club was featured in a front-page article in the most recent Vermont Journal.

March 6, 2008
New trustees April Hayden and Karen Waterworth were welcomed.
Marion Abrams was named Chairperson: Susie Martin, Treasurer; April Hayden and Karen Waterworth, Secretaries.
Volunteers Sharon Mayer and Angelique Lee were present.
Treasurer’s report was presented; accounts reviewed and found to be in good order.
Old Business
Most library shifts had been covered with just a few still in need of coverage,
Angelique Lee hoped to attend Materials Review on April 4th at the Sherburne Library prior to compiling a possible order list for Child and Juvenile Fiction and Nonfiction.
New Business
Angelique presented a long list of periodicals that might be of interest to children. The list was approved with few exceptions.
The continuing after school programs were discussed.
It was noted that Linda McFarlane would be covering the second music session as Susie Smollen was ill.
The Travel the World program slated for March 11th was discussed sounded well organized.
The freewill fundraising April 1st Spaghetti Dinner prepared by the after school program participants under the direction of Joyce and Roger Stevens was a topic of conversation and concern was voiced regarding the encouragement of broader community attendance.
Having adopted the display for March, Susie Martin made a fine show of a number of cookbooks from the library’s collection. Other members are encouraged to adopt a monthly display.
The email list of persons interested in library news was discussed. Out of respect for those on the list Marion expressed a reluctance to open the list to other users no matter how worthy their cause. Some discussion was devoted to the possibility of developing an online community bulletin board or blog at some point, though not necessarily under the auspices of the library.
It was decided not to place a Scholastic order.
The summer reading program, “Catch the Reading Bug” was a topic of discussion. A decision was made to purchase a modest amount of supplies to encourage participation.

Meeting Minutes 12/6/07
Attending: Susie Martin (Trustee & treasurer), April Hayden (trustee), Angelique Lee (trustee), Marion Abrams (Trustee chair & acting secretary).
Mission statement: To be a multi generation community center fostering traditional, cultural and technological literacy. Was unanimously approved
Marion and Angelique reported on their meeting with Joyce to plan the Tuesday after school program.
April will research books from mid state library on the theme of each session. Marion will send her a schedule of activities
It was decided to schedule a work day January 13th at 1:00 to clear weeded books from the shelves, pull cards, catalog books etc... We need boxes for this.
Decided to do another town wide mailing to be sent out early January. We will list Tuesday program schedule, the Saturday music program and Chinese, book club, e mail classes, game nights etc... We will emphasize that the library is not just for kids, there are new books and activities for adults too.
Once we have a phone we will promote one on one e mail classes during open hours Thursday nights. People can call to make an appointment. We will need volunteer tutors for this and can provide them with information on teaching seniors and absolute beginners.
It was decided (after much discussion and a brief sword fight) that we will try to schedule weekend programs on Saturdays (music, Chinese and summer story and craft) so that people will get used to coming to the library Saturdays. We will aim to start the music educator Feb 14th and continue the second Saturday of every month for 6 months.
Susan Davidson's term as a trustee will expire at Town Meeting. She does not want to continue. If April takes her place that leaves a one year term to be filled. We discussed a few ideas. Watch out, it could be you!
We would like to start an adopt a monthly display program to start in January. We will try to find one family, person, or group to create a display each month. They can pick any theme they like (could be seasonal like valentines day or spring, could be something of interest like cooking, hiking, biking, photography, picture books....). We will write out procedures to clarify, but basically the group chooses several books some from the shelves, to be ordered from mid sate, or to be donated by the group, AND some to be purchased with a small budget to purchase a few books each month. This way we'll have a new display, and our collection will grow representing the interests of our community. Marion will write up structure, Angelique will contact people for the first month.
Announcements
-We will host game nights or afternoons this winter. Karen Waterworth and Kelly Zieggler have agreed to run this. They are thinking 4pm last Sunday of the month starting December or January.
-Thank you Susie for taking on thank you notes.
-Since there will be a community dinner as part of the after school program we will not do a Chinese new year party.
-New book club date January 10th 6:30pm.
-As you can see we need lots of help. Please talk up library programs and recruit volunteers to help.

New Business
-Report from Beth on Senior Programming workshop.
We would like to reach out to seniors in our community. Beth attended a dept. of libraries workshop.
She brought materials and suggestions for activities for seniors in the library and outreach. Possible coordination with Carolyn Mayer librarian in Hancock. Possible coordination with Quintown center. Angelique will follow up with scheduling of free Rural Legal Education session on Elder Law. We will offer 1 on 1 e mail classes but will wait until we have a phone number to promote them so people can sign up. Beginning of the year we will do a town wide mailing emphasizing adult programs (game nights with cards, e mail classes, rural legal ed, book club).
-Should we get phone line with money from dinner? It would pay for 1 year of phone. (Note: Winnie Belle may also cover this). We made more money than anticipated with the book sale and dinner. We are in need of a phone line.
It was decided that we will use voip service like Vonage ($15/month) because of price and convenience. Approved by trustees assuming all technical issues work out. This will be helpful to have an outgoing message with schedules, to receive messages for sign ups, to list a contact number for press releases, and to make calls if necessary during after school program.
-Will we host game nights or afternoons this winter? Perhaps last Sunday of the month to follow up on Summer picnics.
We will discuss starting after the holidays at the next meeting and see if Kelly and Karen are interested in heading this up again.
-Should get a new sign? People driving by do not realize there is a library here. There is not outward sign that this is a library. Angelique made preliminary research on prices. Discussion of blue “traffic” signs for library at either end of green, a new sign for the P, a sign on the front railing that says “Library” and something permanent for the Library and community bulletin board. Marion will get traffic sign prices. Angelique will make diagram up with signs and sizes and bring that with final prices o next meeting. If we approve we can run this by the selectboard.
-Thank you notes. We have a long list of people who donated books that have not been thanked.
Susie Martin volunteered to catch up on Thank You notes for the library.
-Turrell Fund site visit November 19th. This is exciting because it means our application is being taken seriously. Since the library is closed that day it would be helpful to have a few people there who can explain how active the library is. If you would like to be there please contact Angelique to read the application. - April volunteered to help Angelique with cleaning.
-Can anyone return books to mid state? - Susie volunteered to do this.
-After school program. Check with Joyce to confirm that it ends on the 11th. The women's alliance will be refinishing the floor in the Town Hall.
Other ideas mentioned but put on hold for future meetings:
-I would like to start an adopt a month display program to start in January. Which shelf, anyone like to run this? (recruit people, schedule them, give them guidance).
-Chinese New year party? February or March. If we are interested bring ideas to next meeting.
